How far are you willing to go for the sake of humanity? Would you transfer your soul to another soldier? In Anima Flux, that is the only way to escape the certain death that awaits. The organised mutant invasion has already overran the residential districts, and the last of humanity’s strongholds commands you to act fast! Whether you’re going on a solo adventure or dragging a friend into the mess – act bravely and fearlessly!
Buckle Up For an Invasion!
The creative minds of the developer studio AvantajPrim, with the publisher JollyCo, have introduced us to something more than a classical metroidvania. Anima Flux is a co-op-optional space odyssey through a dystopian city where even the cutscenes are stylish, brutal, and full of dark humour.

The game’s setting is placed on the giant space ark (humanity’s final home), which is currently under attack from crawling, flying and hatching mutants. So a theocratic totalitarian regime sends in their best troops to the rescue. It is your task to control the two elite soldiers and combine their unique abilities and skills to eliminate the mutant threat.
One Soul – Two Soldiers: Anima Flux Gameplay
As mentioned, Anima Flux adds a wonderfully chaotic twist with its focus on the co-op gameplay. You can transfer your anima (soul) with the latest implant technology. In other words, you can switch between the characters: archer Eileen and swordsman Roy. When one of them fails, the other one keeps going. And death? Seems just like a simple speed bump.

Each of the two playable characters evolves uniquely, creating an ever-shifting balance of powers, combos, and last-minute rescues. When you’re in a pinch, you can use a special mode called Rage, which unleashes mayhem for an extended period. And yes, it is as awesome as it sounds!

Not to mention, all NPC have important missions in the story. Even more, you can enjoy all this cosmic carnage in eight languages, including English, Russian, German, Spanish, Portuguese-BR, Simplified Chinese, French, and Japanese.
The Hand-Drawn Visuals
The unique visual style of Anima Flux is a mix of 80s-90s retro sci-fi aesthetic. Furthermore, you can see a variety of futuristic 2D visuals combined with the dark cosmic atmosphere. Don’t be misled by the 2D part, because the game oozes depth in every corridor of its dystopian world. Whereas the mood is dense, the colours are very rich. Even the mutants are so scrupulously crafted that it makes you want to eliminate them ASAP.

In addition, get ready to be sucked into the amazingly hand-drawn animated cutscenes. Without a doubt, they give the story some serious cinematic punch.

Another key point that shows Anima Flux’s quality is the 2024 NYX Game Awards. In the US PC Game category, it won three gold medals: Best Narrative, Best Game Design and Best Art Direction. In like fashion, they also received the silver medal as a Platformer. As you can see, you’re in for a treat!

To conclude, Anima Flux is more than a good-looking metroidvania. It is a soul-swapping, co-op carnage ride with storytelling as sharp as its combat.
